Mission

The Genetics Research Laboratory, established in 1998 in collaboration with Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and inaugurated in 2000 has as a key mission to promote research and development in genetics.

The Laboratory performs state-of-the-art testing for inherited and congenital disorders by providing a full range of genetic screening, pre- and post natal diagnosis and prevention services as well as various research programs into genetic diseases.

Objectives

The main objectives of the Genetics Research Laboratory are:

• diagnosing congenital abnormalities and genetic diseases in foetus, children, and adults.
• counselling adults and parents regarding the risks of occurrence or recurrence of congenital abnormalities and genetic diseases.
• carrying out research into a number of genetic disorders.
• contributing in creating a database for genetic diseases.
• collaborating with academic institutes and other research laboratories throughout Lebanon and abroad to introduce new tests that meet proper and rigid validation standards on site.
• training undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students, as well as health professionals by applying the principles of diagnostic tests and techniques in Molecular Biology and Cytogenetics.

These activities serve our overall mission to provide new knowledge which will ultimately improve human health in general and more specifically management and care for patients affected with genetic disorders in Lebanon and Arab countries.
